(6-9-12) - JTG Daugherty Development Driver, Cale Conley, made
his mark Saturday Night at Gresham Motorsports Park. Cale was
nearly perfect on the evening, and ended up finishing 2nd
after leading a majority of the race.
Cale and the #47 team arrived at the track well prepared for the
Slack Auto Parts 150. He was 4th quick in the first practice
and then was fastest in the second practice. Cale knew that
Crew Chief, David Hyder, and team had prepared a great race
car. He then backed it up by earning his first career Coors
Light Pole Award in the NASCAR K&N Series. Cale set the
pace at 17.487 seconds. (102.934mph)
Leading the field to green for the first time in his NASCAR
career, Cale looked like a veteran driver time after time Saturday
night. Cale led the first 145 laps of the 150-lap caution
plagued race. On the night there were 9 total cautions, 2 of which
were red flag conditions.
The latest red flag came on lap 143 after a multi-car accident
left debris and oil all over the track. The ensuing restart
would take place on lap 145. Cale was near perfect on the
first 8 restarts as he jumped out to a nice lead each time. However
on lap 145 when the green flag waved, Cale spun the tires on the
restart and this opened up the door for a hard charging Kyle
Larson. Larson took his small window of opportunity and grabbed the
lead with just 4 laps remaining. Cale tried to reel in Larson
but ran out of time as Larson took the checkered flag and Cale took
2nd.
The Sprint Car racing duo shared the podium along with NASCAR
K&N Series veteran, Brett Moffitt, who rounded out the top
three.
The 2nd place finish makes it back-to-back podium finishes for
Cale. In the last race Cale placed 3rd at Iowa Speedway on
May 19th. The race from Gresham will air on The SPEED
Channel, June 21st at 3PM. The next stop for the K&N
series will be at Langley Speedway on June 23th.
