(6/7/2011) - Winston-Salem, NC
Last weekend Cale and the race team made their first trip to the
famous Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC for the "Army
Strong 150". The track is rich in history as several legends
in the sport trace their roots back to the stadium style
track. The quarter-mile track is by far the shortest
track on the NASCAR K&N East Circuit. This short and flat
track set the race up for several cautions and damaged
racecars. 150 laps was the distance and almost half of those
laps were run under the caution flag.
The practice and qualifying sessions were held on Friday night,
while the 150-lap event was held on Saturday evening. On
Friday night Cale and the team struggled to find speed early in the
evening, but improved as the night went on. Cale qualified
24th quick after a 2-lap qualifying session on Friday
night. Saturday night Cale lined up 24th as
they took the green flag on lap 1. The short track
proved to be a tough task for all the competitors as there were
several cautions before lap 50. Cale worked his way up to
about 10th place halfway through the race, but was then
hit in the rear, which caused him to spin and go 1 lap down.
Several other drivers were already 1 lap down at the time so he
still remained in the top 20. After missing several crashes
through out the night, Cale kept the car on the track and finished
the race in 18th place.
