(5/23/2011) - Newton, IA
Cale raced at two popular NASCAR tracks over the last two weekends.
The weekend of the 14th was the USAR Pro Cup race at
Rockingham. The weekend got off to a great start as Cale
qualified 7th quick on the Friday evening before the race.
The "Carolina 200" got underway on Saturday afternoon featuring a
150 lap event.
Cale started in 7th and was running smooth consistent lines for the
first 50 laps. While running in 7th Cale moved in on lap
traffic on lap 72. The lap cars were instructed to stick to
the inside lane throughout the race. However, Cale came up to
the back of the lapped #31car and the driver jerked the wheel
heading towards the outside. Seeing this move, Cale darted
towards the inside lane to make the pass, and the lap car made an
erratic move once again. Unfortunate the #31 made contact
with Cale's right rear and sent him into the fence. This
ended the weekend for the #27 Team as the damage was too much to
correct. Cale stayed off the track for the rest of the
race and ended up in 24th place on the official results
The very next weekend Cale and the #27 team headed to Iowa Speedway
for the NASCAR K&N East/West combination race. The team
unloaded on Friday and had just 1 hour of practice time on Saturday
afternoon before the race. During the last five minutes of
practice the team put on some new tires in an attempt to make a
mock qualifying run. Cale was set to lay down a great lap
when the car got loose in turn 4, and the car backed up into the
wall. The damage to the car was too heavy to to fix in the
2-hour time period before qualifying. The team still has
high hopes for the rest of the season and is looking
forward to a very busy summer of racing. They are quickly
gaining great experience and learning how to build a solid race
team every step of the way.
